The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a cautionary advisory to Nigerian citizens regarding the misuse of entry visas granted by the United States, stressing that travelers must strictly adhere to the stated purpose and visa classification. In a statement released on Tuesday by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the service warned that US authorities maintain continuous surveillance over visa holders and may revoke visas if any violations of immigration rules or other laws occur.

Maiwada emphasized that security vetting does not end at the point of entry, as visa holders remain subject to ongoing scrutiny by US immigration and security agencies. He noted that Nigerians found violating import/export regulations or engaging in unauthorized activities risk visa cancellation and legal action, both in the US and under Nigerian law.

The Customs spokesman also reminded travelers of the mandatory declaration of cash above $10,000 or its equivalent when exiting or entering the country, and urged passengers to avoid carrying prohibited items. He encouraged all Nigerians travelling abroad to remain law-abiding and responsible, adding, “Fraudulent acts, whether committed within or outside Nigeria, will attract serious legal consequences.”
