Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has issued a strong warning to politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections, cautioning against any attempt to manipulate the results. Speaking during an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, the septuagenarian declared that the coming election would be a defining moment for the nation, stressing that the slogan for the polls is “rig and die.”

“The 2027 election will be a defining moment for Nigeria. Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die. By that time, our eyes go clear well well… what we are about to see in 2026 will make Nigerians decide whether to continue in this manner or cause a revolution,” he said. Charly Boy maintained that credible elections remain the only lasting solution to bad governance, adding that Nigerians must focus on ensuring their votes count.

Reacting to the Lagos State government’s decision to rename the ‘Charly Boy Bus Stop’ in Bariga, the entertainer dismissed the move as “outright silly and a bloody distraction.” He emphasised that his primary concern is rescuing millions of Nigerians who go to bed hungry daily, rather than what he described as petty political gestures.
