Nigeria and the Republic of Benin have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation between local governments and traditional authorities along their shared borders. The agreement is designed to foster stronger ties between communities, improve security coordination, and promote socio-economic development in border regions.

Officials from both countries emphasized that the MoU will help address cross-border challenges such as smuggling, insecurity, and irregular migration, while also deepening cultural and economic exchanges. The collaboration is expected to create a structured platform for traditional rulers and local administrators to work together more effectively.

The landmark pact reflects the commitment of Nigeria and Benin to advancing regional integration and strengthening grassroots diplomacy, ensuring that border communities become hubs of peace, trade, and mutual prosperity.
