
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted cannabis valued at ₦48.5 million and other contraband goods worth over ₦220 million in Kaduna State.
The Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, through his spokesman Saidu Nuruddeen, disclosed that the seizures were made on August 21, 2025, following credible intelligence. He said operatives stopped a vehicle along the Zaria Flyover on the Kaduna–Zaria Expressway, where they discovered nine sacks containing 185 compressed blocks of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 89.6kg. The illicit drugs had an estimated duty paid value of ₦48,562,500, and a male suspect was arrested.
According to the statement, the suspect and the seized exhibits have been handed over to operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution, in line with the spirit of inter-agency collaboration between security agencies.
In a separate operation, Customs operatives intercepted three vehicles transporting various smuggled goods. Items recovered included 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, 8,100 litres of petrol, 178 bales of second-hand clothes, 225 cartons of spaghetti, 107 used tyres and 37 electric shockers. The total duty paid value of the seized items was put at ₦220,457,336.48.
