Bauchi State is constructing a 24-km alternative road to reconnect the North-East and North-West after floods damaged major highways.
The road, linking Itas and Gadau, will serve motorists traveling to Azare, Hadeja, and Yobe, especially when the Kano–Maiduguri highway is cut off.
Key features include three bridges (225 m, 160 m, 145 m), several culverts, and a 7.3-m-wide dual lane with shoulders. About 5 km of the route runs through swampy terrain.
Contractor Habibu Engineering Company says the project will be completed by October 2025.
Information Commissioner Usman Muhammad noted the road’s economic impact, especially for farmers moving produce in the dry season. He added that the project, long sought since the First Republic, is being realized under Governor Bala Mohammed.
