The Federal Government, under the Administration of Tinubu-Kashim, has launched RenewHER, a Presidential Women’s Health Transformation Initiative aimed at improving maternal health and overall well-being of women in Nigeria. The programme was flagged off at a gala event at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the President represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The initiative seeks to make women’s health a national priority and a cornerstone of Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
RenewHER will establish a Presidential focal office on women’s health to coordinate with the Federal Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the State-Wide Approach Coordination Office, and the Governors’ Spouses Forum. The initiative will embed women’s health priorities at all levels of government while promoting collaboration with private sector actors and development partners. An AI-powered National Women’s Health Digital Hub will provide targeted campaigns on maternal survival, adolescent health, preventive care, and workforce strengthening, linking healthcare to economic empowerment.
Speaking at the launch, the President emphasized that maternal mortality remains a national challenge and pledged coordinated action to ensure all girls and women have access to quality healthcare. The initiative has received wide support from stakeholders, including the UN Women Country Representative for Nigeria and state governors’ spouses, who pledged collaboration to ensure the programme’s objectives are fully realized. RenewHER is expected to complement ongoing initiatives such as MAMII and serve as a model for integrated, sustainable women’s health interventions nationwide.
