Workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMeT) have given the Federal Government two weeks to resolve welfare and salary issues or face a strike.
The unions NUATE, ANAP, and AUPCTRE accuse the government of failing to honour agreements on salary relativity, arrears, and implementation of circulars. They warn that patience has run out.
The threat comes months after NiMeT staff suspended a similar action in May. Past strikes disrupted flights nationwide, as airlines depend on NiMeT for weather data.
Meanwhile, at the NAAPE 40th anniversary conference, Capt. Ibrahim Yunusa highlighted persistent aviation challenges including underfunding, brain drain, poor infrastructure, and weak weather monitoring systems.
Stakeholders are urging urgent government intervention to avert disruptions and address deeper industry problems.
