Terror in Kwara: Gunmen Kill Three in Oke Ero, Kidnap Couple in Lafiagi Amid Worsening Insecurity

Terror and panic swept through Idofin Odo-Ase, a once-peaceful community in Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Thursday evening when armed terrorists launched a deadly attack, killing at least three residents and forcing others to flee their homes. Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the area unexpectedly, shooting sporadically and stabbing one victim before disappearing into nearby forests. “They came suddenly, shooting and shouting. We ran into the bush, but three people were killed instantly,” a survivor recounted.

Residents told reporters that no security operatives arrived during or after the onslaught, leaving the community in a state of fear and confusion. Families were seen evacuating at dawn, carrying their belongings and heading to neighboring towns for safety. The gruesome killings have once again heightened tensions across Kwara South, where rural communities continue to face repeated attacks without consistent security presence.

In a related incident early Friday, bandits raided Efagi village under the Lafiagi Emirate in Edu Local Government Area, kidnapping a man and his wife and injuring a local vigilante who attempted to resist the attackers. The Nigerian Army reportedly responded swiftly, engaging the gunmen in a firefight and rescuing the woman, though her husband remains in captivity. The attacks underscore the deepening insecurity in Kwara’s rural belt, as residents call on authorities to strengthen surveillance and restore safety to the region.
