U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Israel on October 13, 2025, to support a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. His visit coincided with the release of the first seven Israeli hostages held by Hamas, marking a key step toward ending the two-year conflict that began with Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023. The released hostages were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross and are now en route to Israel.

The ceasefire agreement provides for the release of 20 surviving hostages and the bodies of 26 others in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. It also facilitates the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza and a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces from major cities. Celebrations erupted in Tel Aviv as the names of the released hostages were announced.

President Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli officials and families affected by the conflict. He will also address the Knesset before co-hosting a peace summit in Egypt with President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. Both Israel and Egypt are set to honor him with their highest civilian awards in recognition of his role in facilitating the peace process.
