The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has responded to a series of allegations made by his sister-in-law, Pat Akpabio, who accused him of being connected to several unresolved killings in Akwa Ibom State.

Pat Akpabio, who is also a gospel singer, made the accusations in a Facebook video posted on 11 October 2025, where she directly challenged the Senate President and threatened to release what she described as more “damaging information” about his past.

“For all the people you people have killed when you were the governor of Akwa Ibom and those you people have killed now that you are in the Senate, it will never be well with you,” she said in the viral video.

The remarks have stirred widespread reactions online, with social media users calling for caution and urging authorities to address the allegations.

In a swift reaction, Senator Akpabio’s media office dismissed the claims as baseless, malicious, and politically motivated, describing them as an attempt to tarnish the image of the Senate President.

According to a statement by his media aide, the Senate President would not be distracted by what he termed “cheap blackmail from those seeking attention.” The aide emphasised that Akpabio’s focus remains on his national duties as Senate President and on supporting the agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Observers note that the incident has revived old controversies from Akpabio’s tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State between 2007 and 2015, a period marked by allegations of political violence and rivalry.

Political analysts believe the public outburst could have deeper family or political undertones, though no concrete evidence has been presented to substantiate Pat Akpabio’s claims.

Authorities have yet to issue any official statement regarding the allegations or the video currently circulating on social media.
