Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commissioned the new Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) State Office in Warri, with a call for stronger collaboration between the state government and the NDDC on the rehabilitation of major roads across the Niger Delta region.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held in the Edjeba community of Warri South Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori lamented the deplorable condition of federal roads within the region, describing them as “nightmarish” for motorists and residents alike.
“The state of our federal roads is a nightmare. Commuters face untold hardship daily. We must put our heads together to fix these roads for the benefit of our people,” the governor stated.
The governor commended the NDDC for completing the new office complex and urged the Commission to partner with Delta State in delivering key infrastructure projects. He noted that his administration has already approved ₦35.7 billion for the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Road, covering the stretch from Effurun Roundabout through the Spare Parts Market to Ohore Junction.
Oborevwori also expressed readiness to collaborate with the NDDC on the Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and other critical projects that would boost economic activities and ease transportation in the oil-rich region.
“Development thrives where there is collaboration. The NDDC and Delta State Government must work hand in hand to achieve President Bola Tinubu’s vision of renewed hope for the Niger Delta,” he added.
In his remarks, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working closely with state governments to deliver sustainable development, saying the new Warri office represents the NDDC’s shift from “transactions to transformation.”
NDDC Chairman, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, described the new facility as a symbol of stability and efficiency, while Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, who attended the event, said President Tinubu has directed the NDDC to prioritize completion of abandoned projects across the Niger Delta.
The newly commissioned office is expected to enhance coordination of NDDC activities within Delta State and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders in driving infrastructural growth and regional integration.
