Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that sidelining him in party affairs could lead to the party’s total collapse.
Speaking during an interview on Thursday, Wike criticized PDP governors for allegedly excluding him from major consultations and decisions concerning the party, despite his contributions to its survival and growth over the years.
“I am the FCT Minister. Are you telling me that because I am not a governor, you will hold a PDP stakeholders’ meeting and exclude me, and then expect the party to survive?” Wike asked.
He dismissed claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for PDP’s internal troubles, insisting that the crisis within the party is self-inflicted and stems from poor leadership decisions.
On the forthcoming PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Wike stated that the necessary groundwork, including congresses, had not been properly carried out, warning that he might not attend if due process is ignored.
Wike further described attempts to sideline influential members like him as dangerous for the future of the PDP, saying the party risks being “buried” if inclusion and fairness are not restored.
The former Rivers State Governor, who played a key role in the PDP’s 2023 presidential campaign, reaffirmed his loyalty to the party but maintained that unity and internal democracy are essential for its survival.
Observers believe Wike’s warning reflects growing tensions between the PDP governors’ forum and senior stakeholders, raising fresh concerns about the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
