Nigeria’s outgoing Service Chiefs are set to receive extensive retirement benefits, including bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), Prado Jeeps, and a medical allowance of up to 60,000 dollars, according to the recently approved Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service (HTACOS) 2024 signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Under the new provisions, each retired Service Chief will be entitled to a bulletproof SUV and a Prado Jeep or its equivalent, both to be maintained by their respective military services and replaced every four years. They will also receive domestic staff, including drivers, security aides, and stewards, in addition to retaining their uniforms and ceremonial accoutrements.

The new policy further provides for medical treatment allowances of up to 20,000 dollars annually for senior officers and as much as 60,000 dollars for the top Service Chiefs. The comprehensive package, which also covers free medical care at home and abroad, reflects government efforts to standardize post-service entitlements and reward years of national service at the highest military level.
