The Presidency has reacted to recent developments in the United States concerning Nigeria, saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had already anticipated and acted ahead of what it described as an orchestrated game unfolding from Washington.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the statement while addressing the controversy surrounding the United States’ decision to redesignate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians. He explained that the Tinubu administration had foreseen the unfolding political and diplomatic maneuvers and put proactive measures in place to protect the nation’s interests.

Onanuga pointed out that President Tinubu, in his recent directives to the nation’s service chiefs, had emphasized the evolving nature of global and domestic security threats. The President had called for innovation, intelligence sharing, and the deployment of modern technology to counter emerging dangers, while reaffirming his commitment to fully support the armed forces in maintaining peace and stability across the country.

The Presidency maintained that these steps, coupled with Tinubu’s reform-driven leadership style, demonstrate foresight and strategic thinking in managing Nigeria’s domestic and international relations. Onanuga expressed confidence that the President’s proactive approach would ensure that Nigeria remains stable, respected, and well-positioned amid external pressures and geopolitical challenges.
