The Federal Government has commenced the payment of three-year salary arrears owed to 1,700 academic and non-academic staff of the federal colleges of education across the country.
The arrears, which date back to 2018–2020, affected teachers who were recruited during that period but were not placed on the government’s payroll due to administrative delays.
Speaking on the development, the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, said the payments were in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the welfare of educators and the revitalization of Nigeria’s education sector.
He added that the move demonstrates the administration’s commitment to justice, fairness, and improved working conditions for teachers, noting that education remains a cornerstone of national development.
The beneficiaries, drawn from various federal colleges of education, have expressed appreciation to the government for fulfilling its promise and addressing a long-standing issue that had caused significant hardship within the system.
