The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the forfeiture of five properties linked to former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, who is currently serving a 75-year prison sentence following his conviction on corruption and money laundering charges.
Justice James Omotosho ordered the final forfeiture of Walijam Apartments located in Wuse II, Abuja, after ruling that the property was acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.
The court also granted interim forfeiture orders on four other properties pending further proceedings. The affected assets include Bloom Luxury Suites Nigeria Limited in Kaduna State, two residential properties on Misratah Street in Wuse II, Abuja, and A.U.A Plaza located on Kade Street, Wuse II, Abuja.
Justice Omotosho directed that the interim forfeiture order be published in a national newspaper to allow any interested parties to appear before the court and show cause why the properties should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
Mamman was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of corruption and money laundering involving billions of naira.
The court had earlier convicted him on multiple counts of corruption and money laundering and sentenced him to 75 years imprisonment. In addition to the jail term, the court ordered him to refund billions of naira traced to him during the investigation and trial.
The latest forfeiture order forms part of ongoing efforts to recover assets allegedly acquired through proceeds of corruption and return them to the Federal Government.
