Nigeria has officially launched its National Data Hub for Gender and Climate Information, a pioneering system designed to generate, harmonize, and visualize gender-disaggregated climate data across multiple sectors. The launch took place on November 12, 2025, in Belem, Brazil, during the Joint Side Event on “Scaling Inclusive Climate Finance: Delivering the $1.3 Trillion Roadmap for People, Economies and Nature” at COP30.
Barr. Tenioye Majekodunmi, Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), emphasized that the Data Hub represents a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to mainstream gender considerations into climate governance. He noted that the initiative aligns with the provisions of the Climate Change Act 2021 and the National Action Plan on Gender and Climate Change (2020-2025).
The Hub will serve as a central repository for gender-disaggregated climate data, enabling policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to make informed decisions and track progress on gender-responsive climate action. By harmonizing data across sectors, the system is expected to enhance transparency, strengthen climate planning, and support inclusive climate finance initiatives.
Majekodunmi highlighted that the launch reflects Nigeria’s commitment to global climate leadership and inclusive sustainable development, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into national climate strategies while promoting equity, resilience, and adaptive capacity in vulnerable communities.
