Gunmen Attack Aiyetoro Kiri as Vigilantes Prevent Mass Abduction in Kogi

Suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Aiyetoro Kiri in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday, killing two residents after storming the community with heavy gunfire. Locals said the attackers fired indiscriminately to cause panic, sending people fleeing for safety as the armed group advanced deeper into the settlement.

Residents reported that the gunmen appeared to be heading toward the community’s high school, raising fears of another mass abduction. However, members of the Kiri Vigilante Group responded swiftly, blocking the attackers’ route and preventing them from reaching the students. In the exchange of gunfire, one vigilante member was killed, while another resident died after being struck by a stray bullet.
