The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, on Tuesday chaired the 64th Regular Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board, approving sweeping leadership appointments and promotions aimed at boosting efficiency within the Service. The move marks a significant step in reinforcing Customs’ central role in Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda.

At the meeting, the Board confirmed the appointment of five Deputy Comptroller-Generals and eight Assistant Comptroller-Generals, all in accordance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023 and the Federal Character principle. Additionally, ten officers received Special Promotions in recognition of their exceptional professionalism and contributions to national revenue generation and security enhancement across key borders and commands.

These reforms form part of a broader strategy to modernise Customs operations, strengthen leadership succession and enhance trade facilitation in line with global standards. As Nigeria intensifies efforts to diversify revenue, deepen private-sector–led growth and improve border transparency under AfCFTA, how will these new appointments reshape the Service’s impact on national economic competitiveness?
