African Carriers Record World’s Strongest Air Cargo Growth in October

African airlines recorded the strongest growth in air cargo demand worldwide in October 2025, posting a remarkable 16.6% year-on-year increase, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The rise outpaced all other regions, as global air cargo demand climbed 4.1% in October, marking the eighth consecutive month of growth and setting a new monthly record. At the same time, African carriers expanded their cargo capacity by 20% compared to the same period last year.

“This performance highlights Africa’s growing role in global trade and logistics,” said an IATA spokesperson. “Airlines across the continent are increasingly connecting African markets to major global trade lanes, particularly Asia and Europe.”

Globally, other regions saw more modest gains: Asia-Pacific carriers rose 8.3%, Europe 4.3%, while North and Latin America experienced slight declines. Despite rising volumes, global cargo yields softened, as capacity growth outpaced demand.

The surge in Africa comes amid a broader rebound in international trade and shifting supply-chain patterns. For countries like Nigeria, the trend could mean enhanced opportunities for air freight, boosting exports and imports and improving access to global markets.

As African airlines continue to expand cargo operations, the continent is poised to play an increasingly strategic role in international logistics, attracting further investment and strengthening regional connectivity. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
