The Nigerian government has reaffirmed its leadership role in the global energy sector following a courtesy visit by Dr. Philip Mshelbila, the newly appointed Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), to the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
During the meeting, discussions centred on how Nigeria can leverage Dr. Mshelbila’s strategic appointment to expand its influence in global gas market policies, accelerate investments, and position the country’s vast gas reserves as engines for industrial growth, energy security, and regional development.
The appointment of Dr. Mshelbila was described as a significant win for Nigeria and Africa, providing an opportunity to align national energy priorities with global direction and ensure that Nigeria emerges not only as a major gas producer but also as a leading architect of the future energy order.
