The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed ongoing security and intelligence cooperation with the United States and other international partners in efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said the collaboration has resulted in precision air strikes against terrorist targets in north-west Nigeria. The cooperation, according to the ministry, is based on structured intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and other forms of support carried out in line with international law and with respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The ministry emphasised that all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the need to protect civilian lives, preserve national unity and uphold the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. It noted that terrorist violence, whether directed at Christians, Muslims or other communities, runs contrary to Nigeria’s values and poses a threat to both national and international peace and security.
The Federal Government added that it continues to work with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while strengthening Nigeria’s own security and intelligence capabilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it will maintain engagement with relevant partners and keep the public informed through official channels.
