Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called for calm among residents following reports of joint United States–Nigeria airstrikes targeting terrorist enclaves in parts of the North-West.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Tambuwal appealed to communities in Sokoto and neighbouring states to remain peaceful and avoid the spread of unverified information, noting that security operations are being conducted to safeguard lives and restore stability.
He emphasised the need for residents to cooperate with security agencies and rely on official channels for accurate updates, warning that misinformation could heighten tension and undermine ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
Tambuwal acknowledged the concerns of affected communities but reassured citizens that the Federal Government and its international partners are committed to addressing security threats in line with Nigeria’s sovereignty and national interest.
He further urged community leaders and stakeholders to promote dialogue and unity, stressing that collective vigilance and public support are crucial to defeating terrorism and ensuring lasting peace in the region.
