The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to urgently tackle the rising wave of “one chance” crimes in Abuja, describing it as a security emergency that requires immediate action.
The call follows the tragic deaths of two professionals on the same day — Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, and Princess Chigbo, a lawyer and former treasurer of the NBA Abuja branch. Both were reportedly murdered by suspected “one chance” robbers, with their bodies dumped at different locations across the FCT.
In a statement on Thursday, NBA President Afam Osigwe emphasized that the victims were law-abiding citizens whose only aim was to return home safely. He called on the FCT Administration to strengthen security measures, enhance intelligence-led policing, and take decisive action to curb criminal activities in the nation’s capital.
