The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has suspended Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw following Senegal’s controversial walk-off during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco.
CAF said the suspension is linked to the “unacceptable conduct” of Senegal’s technical crew and players, who left the pitch in protest after a penalty was awarded to Morocco late in the game. The incident sparked widespread criticism and overshadowed what had been a dramatic final.
In a statement, CAF described the protest as a violation of tournament regulations and an act that brought the competition into disrepute. Pape Thiaw was found culpable for failing to control his players and technical staff during the heated moment.
Further sanctions against individual players and the Senegal Football Federation are reportedly still under review.
