No fewer than 1,000 former lawmakers drawn from the National Assembly and the 36 State Houses of Assembly have adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as their sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was made on Saturday under the platform of the National Forum of Former Legislators during a national gathering. The forum comprises former senators, members of the House of Representatives, and ex-members of State Houses of Assembly from across the country.
Rising from the meeting, the former lawmakers passed a unanimous vote of confidence in President Tinubu, citing his administration’s economic reforms, governance direction, and the Renewed Hope Agenda as reasons for their support. They said continuity in leadership is necessary to consolidate ongoing reforms and stabilise the economy.
Leaders of the forum said the decision followed wide consultations and an assessment of national developments, adding that President Tinubu remains best positioned to lead the country through current economic and political challenges.
The group also pledged to mobilise support nationwide ahead of the 2027 general election, assuring the president of their commitment to grassroots engagement and national unity.
