Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has claimed his first trophy with Qatari side Al Ahli, marking a memorable milestone in his career.

Al Ahli lifted the UAE–Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup after edging past Al Jazira in a dramatic penalty shootout. The final, played at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday night, ended level after regulation time before Al Ahli prevailed 4–3 on penalties.

Although the 32-year-old defender did not feature in the match, the triumph comes shortly after his move to Al Ahli SC from Saudi Arabian club Al Kholood. Troost-Ekong has signed a contract with the Qatari side running until June 2028, taking a significant step by joining one of Qatar’s leading clubs.

A key figure for the Super Eagles over the years, Troost-Ekong brings vast experience from both European and Middle Eastern football. His arrival is expected to bolster Al Ahli’s defence and provide valuable leadership at the back.

The trophy represents a positive start for the former Watford and Fenerbahçe defender at his new club and underlines Al Ahli’s ambition to compete strongly in regional competitions.
