Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has declared that terrorists should not be granted a second chance, insisting that individuals involved in acts of terrorism must be decisively dealt with rather than rehabilitated.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s News Night, the governor argued that terrorists have inflicted immense suffering on communities and should not benefit from amnesty or reintegration programmes. He maintained that the primary responsibility of government is to protect citizens and ensure that those responsible for violent crimes are held accountable.
Sani’s remarks come amid ongoing national discussions over the fate of surrendered insurgents and the effectiveness of deradicalisation initiatives aimed at reintegrating former fighters into society. While some security experts and policymakers support rehabilitation programmes as part of a broader counterinsurgency strategy, the Kaduna governor said he does not believe terrorists deserve another opportunity after the devastation caused by their actions.
The governor also stressed the need for stronger security measures and sustained efforts to combat terrorism and banditry, challenges that continue to affect several parts of northern Nigeria. He reiterated that government must prioritise the safety of law-abiding citizens and victims of violence.
His comments are expected to fuel further debate over Nigeria’s approach to tackling insecurity, particularly the balance between military operations and rehabilitation programmes for repentant fighters. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
