The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has dismissed claims that Nigeria is under siege, arguing that opposition parties are exaggerating the country’s security challenges.
According to Onanuga, while security breaches and criminal incidents exist in some parts of the country, it is inaccurate to portray the entire nation as being overwhelmed by insecurity.
He expressed concern over what he described as attempts by opposition figures to create the impression that insecurity is widespread across all regions of the country.
The presidential aide also criticised sections of the media, alleging that some reports present security incidents in a manner that suggests the whole country is engulfed by insecurity.
Onanuga maintained that the government acknowledges existing security challenges and continues to implement measures aimed at improving safety and stability across the country.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing security concerns through ongoing operations and policies designed to protect lives and property.
The remarks come amid continuing national discussions on security and efforts by the government and relevant agencies to tackle threats posed by criminal and terrorist groups in different parts of Nigeria.
