Kano State witnessed a major political shake-up on Tuesday as the governor and several federal and state lawmakers formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), sending shockwaves across the state’s political landscape. The mass defection, announced at a well-attended event, marks one of the most significant realignments in Kano politics in recent years.

The governor, while addressing party supporters and APC leaders, described the move as a strategic decision aimed at strengthening governance, fostering unity, and accelerating development in the state. He said the decision was taken after wide consultations with political stakeholders, community leaders, and supporters across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

APC leaders welcomed the new entrants, describing the defections as a boost to the party’s growing influence in the state and the North-West region. They expressed confidence that the development would enhance cooperation between the state and the Federal Government, while opposition parties criticised the move, warning it could reshape political competition ahead of future elections.
