A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Zuba has ordered the remand of Alhaji Danjuma Mohammed, former National Coordinator of the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) at the North East Development Commission (NEDC), over an alleged ₦2.2 billion fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Mohammed and Prince Chibuike Echem on a 54-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, and forgery. A third suspect, Aminu Alhaji, is reportedly at large.
Prosecutors allege the defendants obtained funds from a business executive by promising NEDC contracts that did not exist. Both men pleaded not guilty. The court declined immediate bail and ordered that they be held at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The trial is expected to commence between March and April 2026 under an accelerated hearing schedule. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
