President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Lagos State over the passing of Otunba (Dr) Adekunle Ojora, a renowned industrialist, business tycoon, and community leader, who died at the age of 93.
The President also commiserated with the immediate family of the late elder statesman, as well as the Ojora and Adele royal families of Lagos, and his business associates, describing Ojora as a towering figure whose influence spanned journalism, public service, and private enterprise.
President Tinubu highlighted the late Ojora’s life as one marked by humility, perseverance, hard work, tenacity, and generosity, virtues that defined his distinguished career in both the public and private sectors. He noted that Ojora began his professional journey as a journalist before venturing into public service and business, where he remained an active and respected boardroom player for decades.
The President further acknowledged Ojora’s significant contributions to national development, particularly his role in advising governments at both national and subnational levels on best practices for safeguarding the future of institutions. He described the passing of Otunba Ojora as a major loss to Nigeria, the private and public sectors, and traditional institutions.
President Tinubu prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed business titan and asked God to grant comfort to his family.
Otunba Ojora trained as a journalist at the prestigious Regent Polytechnic in London and later became an assistant editor with the BBC in the early 1950s before returning to Nigeria to join the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation as a reporter. He later joined the United African Company of Nigeria (UAC) as Public Relations Manager and rose to become an Executive Director of the conglomerate in 1962, becoming one of the youngest corporate executives of his time.
