The Federal Government has launched zero-emission electric transit services at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy within Nigeria’s aviation sector. The initiative, implemented by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in partnership with Possible Electric Mobility and Zeut Energies, introduces electric buses and sedans to support passenger and staff mobility at the airport.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, FAAN Board Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, and FAAN Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, for their support in advancing sustainable airport operations. He described the project as a significant step toward aligning Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure with global green energy standards.

Mrs. Kuku said FAAN has intensified efforts to optimise energy use through the installation of energy-efficient lighting, deployment of solar lighting within terminals, and enhanced waste recycling initiatives. She reaffirmed FAAN’s commitment to a green energy transition, as officials inspected the newly deployed electric vehicles, marking another milestone in the Federal Government’s drive for sustainable aviation infrastructure.
