The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, recorded a commanding victory at the polling unit of the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, during Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Announcing the results, Polling Officer Elizabeth Oregbemeh disclosed that Oyebanji polled 164 votes to defeat his closest rival, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, who secured eight votes. The Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, Ayodeji Ojo, received one vote.
The outcome reflects the APC’s strong showing at the polling unit as voters turned out to participate in the governorship election.
Earlier in the day, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele commended the peaceful conduct of the election across the state. He praised voters for their orderly participation and lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the timely deployment of election materials and personnel to polling units across all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.
According to INEC figures, Ekiti State has 1,059,360 registered voters, while 1,028,929 voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the election, indicating a high level of preparedness among the electorate.
The governorship election was conducted amid reports of generally peaceful voting across many parts of the state, with residents exercising their democratic rights in an orderly atmosphere.
