A factional leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, on Thursday led a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, demanding recognition as the party’s legitimate National Chairman.

Gombe, who was joined by ADC House of Representatives member Leke Abejide and members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, insisted that due process was followed in his emergence and urged INEC to update its records accordingly.

The protest is part of an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, with multiple factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership. Demonstrators also raised concerns over what they described as INEC’s refusal to recognise any faction following recent legal disputes.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC has not issued an official response to the protest.
