President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, describing him as a towering figure of integrity, discipline, and dedicated service to Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, President Tinubu said the centenarian’s life represents decades of selfless contribution to education, politics, and democratic development in the country.

The President noted that Pa Fasoranti has remained a consistent advocate of good governance, principled leadership, and national unity, earning widespread respect across generations.

Tinubu highlighted Fasoranti’s academic background, including his studies at the University College, Ibadan (now the University of Ibadan), the University of Hull in the United Kingdom, and Maguire University in Sydney, Australia.

He also commended his impact in the education sector, particularly his service as a teacher and his establishment of several educational institutions in Ondo State.

The President described him as one of the last surviving disciples of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, recalling his political journey through the Action Group and the Unity Party of Nigeria, where he served as Commissioner for Finance in old Ondo State between 1979 and 1983.

According to Tinubu, Fasoranti distinguished himself in public service through honesty, prudence, and accountability in managing state resources.

The President further praised the elder statesman for his role in the struggle against military dictatorship and his leadership within Afenifere, where he championed Yoruba unity, democracy, and socio-political development.

Tinubu also recalled that Fasoranti survived an assassination attempt during the military era and remained steadfast in his beliefs despite personal tragedies, including the loss of his wife and daughter.

He expressed gratitude to the Afenifere leader for his prayers and support during his political journey, noting his encouragement during the early stages of his presidential ambition.

The President prayed for continued strength, good health, and long life for Pa Fasoranti, while thanking him for his immense service and enduring legacy to Nigeria.
