Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three kidnapped victims and thwarted a planned terrorist attack during separate operations in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
The operations, conducted as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry across the North-West, also led to the recovery of a high-calibre weapon, ammunition, motorcycles, military accoutrements, and other operational items.
According to military authorities, troops on a routine offensive patrol in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on 22 June 2026, rescued three female kidnap victims who had been abandoned by their captors following sustained military pressure in the area.
The victims were identified as 28-year-old Zainab Muhammadu of Gara Zaima Village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and 20-year-old Hafsat Ibrahim and 17-year-old Halira Usman, both from Mashiga/Taka Lafiya Village in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Military sources said the victims had spent approximately three months in captivity before regaining their freedom. They were subsequently evacuated for medical evaluation and necessary care.
In a separate operation on 23 June 2026, troops of 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush at Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area.
The operation targeted a group of terrorists reportedly moving to launch attacks in the area. On sighting the troops, the suspects came under heavy fire and were forced to abandon their mission, fleeing the scene.
Items recovered during the operation included a PKT machine gun, a cache of ammunition, two motorcycles, chains suspected to have been used to restrain captives, and other operational materials.
Military authorities described the operations as further evidence of the effectiveness of intelligence-led missions and the sustained offensive campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist and criminal networks across the region.
They noted that the rescue of the victims and the recovery of weapons underscore the vigilance, professionalism, and commitment of troops working to protect communities within the Joint Task Force’s area of responsibility.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that troops would continue to maintain pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements until lasting peace and security are restored across the North-West.
