PMAWCA Meeting in Lagos Focuses on Port Reforms, Maritime Infrastructure, Regional Trade Growth

The Board of Directors Meeting of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) was held in Lagos from May 18 to 20, 2026, at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, bringing together key government officials, maritime regulators, and industry stakeholders from across West and Central Africa.

Among dignitaries at the meeting were Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and businessman Aliko Dangote, alongside more than 350 maritime stakeholders and regulators.

Deliberations at the meeting focused on reducing high port charges, expanding and modernising port infrastructure, and improving maritime trade efficiency across the region. Participants also stressed the importance of strengthening Public-Private Partnerships in major maritime projects, including the Lekki Deep Seaport.

The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) reaffirmed their commitment to effective regulation, efficient port operations, and enhanced maritime safety as part of broader efforts to boost regional trade and economic growth.
