A former Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG), Baba Malam Wali, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.
Wali secured victory at the party’s governorship primary election held in Damaturu on Friday after polling the highest number of votes against other aspirants.
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Engr. Muttaqah Rabe Darma, declared Wali winner of the exercise, stating that he satisfied the requirements of the party’s constitution and guidelines.
His emergence followed earlier endorsements by key APC stakeholders in Yobe State, including Governor Mai Mala Buni, who publicly backed him as his preferred successor.
Political observers say Wali’s emergence may strengthen calls for power rotation to Yobe North Senatorial District, which has yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state in 1991.
