The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed June 8, 2026, for the hearing of a suit filed by Nafiu-Bala Gombe, challenging the leadership structure of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The matter, which is before Justice Peter Lifu, involves a dispute over the legitimacy of the party’s interim national leadership, including figures such as former Senate President David Mark, who is linked to the current leadership arrangement being contested in court.
At Wednesday’s proceedings, the court adjourned the case after counsel to the plaintiff, Robert Emukpoeruo (SAN), requested additional time to ensure that all parties seeking to join the suit are properly served and included in the proceedings.
The judge noted that some parties had not yet been served hearing notices and ordered that service be completed within 24 hours to guarantee fair hearing for all sides.
Justice Lifu also directed all parties to file and exchange relevant court processes before the next hearing date, stressing that the case would proceed on an accelerated hearing basis in line with earlier appellate court directives.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, seeks to restrain the defendants from parading themselves as leaders of the ADC, arguing that their emergence violated the party’s constitution and electoral laws.
The case forms part of the ongoing internal leadership crisis within the ADC, which has continued to generate parallel claims to the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
