The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects and local informants linked to the abduction of pupils and staff during recent attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led investigations into the coordinated attacks on schools in Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities.
According to the police, the arrested individuals are believed to have acted as informants and logistics supporters for the armed group responsible for the kidnappings.
Investigators said the suspects were traced through telephone communications with the abductors, which allegedly revealed how they provided information on movement routes and safe passages within forested areas, including parts of the Old Oyo National Park.
The police further stated that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the wider kidnapping network.
Authorities confirmed that the main armed attackers involved in the school abductions are still at large, while search-and-rescue operations continue in surrounding forest locations.
The attacks, which occurred in mid-May 2026, involved the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers during coordinated raids on multiple schools in Oriire LGA, triggering widespread concern and a major security response.
Security agencies have since intensified patrols and rescue efforts across affected communities.
