A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a man identified as Isa Isiaka, a father of 11 children, to 20 years imprisonment for failing to report information linked to Boko Haram activities to security agencies.
According to court proceedings, Justice Binta Nyako delivered the judgment after finding that the convict did not disclose knowledge of terrorist-related activities, an offence punishable under Nigeria’s Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.
The court held that withholding such information could hinder ongoing counter-terrorism operations, especially in regions affected by insurgency in the North-East.
The case adds to a growing number of terrorism-related convictions in Nigeria, where courts have recently handed down lengthy prison terms to individuals found guilty of supporting, financing, or failing to report activities connected to Boko Haram.
Authorities say the judgment is part of wider efforts to strengthen intelligence sharing and disrupt terrorist networks operating within and across Nigeria’s borders. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
