The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that more than one million registered voters are expected to participate in the forthcoming 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, as the commission concludes arrangements for the final phase of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection across the state.
INEC disclosed that the updated voter register now stands at approximately 1,059,360 registered voters, following a recent cleaning and verification exercise ahead of the poll scheduled for June 20, 2026.
According to the commission, the figure reflects an increase in voter participation compared to previous elections, driven by the Continuous Voter Registration exercise conducted across Ekiti State.
As part of final preparations, INEC has intensified efforts to ensure that all eligible voters collect their PVCs before election day. The commission noted that PVC distribution is in its final stages, with collection exercises taking place across registration areas, wards, and local government offices in the state.
Election officials have urged residents who are yet to collect their cards to do so promptly, stressing that the PVC remains a key requirement for voting.
INEC also reassured political parties and voters of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, while warning against vote buying and other forms of electoral malpractice.
The Ekiti governorship election is expected to be closely contested, with the commission calling on stakeholders to ensure peaceful participation and compliance with electoral guidelines. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
