President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that true judicial independence is rooted in the dignity, welfare, and security of judicial officers, stressing that judges cannot effectively dispense justice without a conducive working and living environment.

The President made the remark on Wednesday during the commissioning of newly constructed housing quarters for judges of the Federal High Court in Katampe District, Abuja. He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Tinubu described the project as more than a housing development, saying it represents a deliberate effort to strengthen the judiciary and protect it from undue influence and compromise.

According to him, providing secure and comfortable accommodation for judges is a national imperative that reinforces the independence of the judiciary and enhances the administration of justice.

The President noted that the project aligns with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to rebuild institutional trust, strengthen governance, and uphold the rule of law.

He urged judicial officers to remain committed to the swift, fair, and transparent dispensation of justice, stating that Nigerians look to the judiciary as a critical pillar of democracy.

Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for delivering the project on schedule, describing him as a results-oriented public servant whose performance continues to contribute to the transformation of Abuja.

Earlier, Wike said the completion of the housing project reflects the administration’s commitment to judicial independence and the sustenance of the rule of law. He added that the Katampe area has been designated for residential accommodation for judges and other senior judicial officers in the Federal Capital Territory.

Also speaking, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, welcomed the inauguration of the quarters, describing it as a reaffirmation of the nation’s commitment to strengthening judicial independence and supporting the judiciary.
