The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wole Oluyede, has expressed concern over delays in the voter accreditation process during the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election.
Speaking after casting his vote at Polling Unit 6, Ward 3, Osaguru Hall in Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday, Oluyede alleged that some voters faced intimidation from security operatives deployed to various polling centres across the state.
According to the PDP candidate, the heavy presence of security personnel in certain locations may discourage voter participation and affect the credibility of the electoral process.
Oluyede also criticized the slow pace of accreditation and voting, noting that only a limited number of voters had been processed more than an hour after voting commenced at his polling unit. He attributed the delays to operational challenges and the late arrival of technical support personnel.
The PDP candidate said he had documented instances of the alleged intimidation and would present the evidence to the appropriate authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not issued an official response to the allegations.
The Ekiti governorship election is being closely monitored by political stakeholders and observers, with voters expected to elect a new governor amid heightened security across the state. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
