Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have invaded a school in Kautikari community, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting students during a brazen attack on the premises.

According to the Borno State Police Command, the attackers stormed the school during class hours, moving from one classroom to another and rounding up students before taking them to an unknown destination. The exact number of those abducted has yet to be officially confirmed.

Police spokesperson Nahum Daso said security agencies have launched a search-and-rescue operation to track the insurgents and secure the safe return of the victims. He assured residents that efforts were underway to bring those responsible to justice.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over the safety of schools in Nigeria’s North-East, where insurgent groups have repeatedly targeted educational institutions despite ongoing security operations.
