The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has criticized some state governments for what it described as persistent failure to pay lecturers’ allowances, warning that continued delays are worsening the hardship faced by university staff.

ASUU expressed frustration over what it called “empty promises” by authorities, insisting that commitments made to address outstanding payments have not been fulfilled in several institutions.

The union said the withholding of allowances has negatively affected morale, productivity, and the overall stability of the academic system in affected universities.

It urged state governments to prioritize the welfare of lecturers and ensure prompt payment of all outstanding entitlements to avoid further disruption in the education sector.

ASUU also called for more transparent and accountable management of university funding, stressing that staff welfare remains critical to sustaining quality education and academic development in Nigeria.
