The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has called for the strengthening of Nigeria’s air power to effectively address the country’s evolving security challenges.

Speaking at the Air Force War College in Abuja, Aneke said the changing nature of security threats, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality, requires a more robust and coordinated military response. He stressed that air power remains a critical component of national defence and a key enabler of successful military operations.

The CAS noted that no single military service can effectively tackle contemporary security challenges alone, emphasizing the need for stronger joint operations, intelligence sharing and inter-service collaboration. According to him, sustained cooperation among the Armed Forces is essential to achieving lasting peace and national security.

He also urged military commanders to embrace innovation, modern technology and continuous professional development to enhance operational effectiveness.

Aneke said equipping personnel with advanced skills and strategic leadership capabilities would improve the military’s ability to respond to emerging threats.

The Air Chief reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting national security efforts through enhanced operational readiness, strategic partnerships and the deployment of modern air capabilities to protect the country’s territorial integrity and safeguard its citizens.
