The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of squandering public resources following allegations that it approved ₦315 million and four plots of land for a Kano-based singer.
The opposition party alleged that the package comprised ₦200 million in cash and ₦115 million for the purchase of a Toyota Coaster bus, bringing the total value of the support to ₦315 million.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, the PDP described the alleged gesture as insensitive at a time when many residents are grappling with economic hardship and the state continues to face challenges in key sectors.
According to the party, the funds would have been better invested in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and youth empowerment, rather than being spent on what it called an unjustifiable reward for an entertainer.
The PDP further alleged that the singer was allocated four plots of land in the Shehu Abubakar District Layout, questioning the basis for the allocation and urging the government to publicly explain the decision.
The party said the alleged approval raises serious concerns about accountability and prudent management of public resources, calling on the state government to be transparent in its handling of state finances.
Reacting to the allegations, the Gombe State Government dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated, insisting it would not respond to what it described as baseless accusations.
As of the time of this report, no independent evidence has been released to verify the PDP’s claims, and the allegations remain disputed. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
