Presidential aspirant, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking to be declared the party’s lawful presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Hashim is asking the court to compel the Accord Party to recognise him as its valid presidential candidate and direct INEC to accept his nomination in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The suit follows a dispute over the party’s presidential ticket, with the plaintiff insisting that he emerged through a valid process and should be officially recognised by both the party and the electoral commission.
The matter was mentioned before the court on Thursday, after which the presiding judge adjourned the case to July 14, 2026, for further hearing.
The outcome of the case is expected to determine the Accord Party’s presidential flag bearer ahead of the 2027 general election.
